How to Quickly Reduce Microsoft Word File Size – Secret #4

Before we go, here are some final tips that may help reduce the size of your Microsoft Word files. 

Compress graphics – Crop you images (where possible) and reduce the image resolution to reduce the graphic’s overall file size.

Turn Off Fast Save – Turn off fast save as this feature requires more disk space while your Microsoft Word document is open. To do this, go to Tools | Options | Save and deselect the Quick Save option.

TrueType fonts – Embed only the TrueType font styles used in your document, i.e. embedding TrueType fonts increases the file size.

Delete File Versions — By creating multiple versions of an Microsoft Word file, you may activate the Versioning feature which increases the file size. To see whether a document contains other versions, click Versions on the File menu. 

Convert embedded objects into graphics — Embedded objects (i.e. data (object) contained in a source file and inserted into a destination file.) increase a file’s size. You may be able to reduce the Microsoft Word file size by converting the embedded object to a graphic.
